Invitation and Announcement Guidelines
- When deciding on the quantity of announcements
to order, order at least 10% extra. Your guest list may have last minute
additions or some envelopes might be damaged in addressing. Having to
place another order with the printer is often too costly.
- Proofread your announcement wording more than
once. Carefully check any numbers or addresses and spelling of names and
places. Reading the text backwards (start at the bottom) can often help
you see errors.
- Announcements should be mailed about four to six
weeks before the wedding date.
- Square or other unusually shaped envelopes can
sometimes cost extra postage. The post office likes rectangular envelopes.
Ask about any extra postage before you order your announcements.
- Adding extra inserts (like a photograph) with
your announcements can sometimes push the weight over one ounce (the
maximum weight for a standard postage stamp). If you need to cut down
weight, you might consider leaving out the inner envelope.
- Write your thank-you notes as you receive your
gifts. They can stack up and become a burden if you get behind. Order your
thank-you cards and envelopes early so you can stay on top of them. Use
Calligraphy By Computer to address the thank-you envelopes ahead of time!
